This page is our summary of Missouri's rules. Text in quotation marks is the exact wording of 20 CSR 2150-4.

The hours are in 20 CSR 2150-4.052(1). "Each licensee shall biennially complete and report at least thirty (30) hours of continuing education." If you hold both an SLP and an audiology license, you need 30 hours in each.

The hours are due Dec 31. Rule 4.050(4) says licenses "shall expire biennially in odd-numbered years." Rule 4.052(1) says the board won't renew a license unless you document "thirty (30) hours of continuing education in the immediately preceding reporting period." Rule 4.052(2) says that period is "the twenty-four (24)-month period beginning January 1 and ending December 31 of each reporting period." So for the Jan 31, 2027 renewal, your hours are due by Dec 31, 2026. Source: 20 CSR 2150-4.050(4), 4.052(1) and 4.052(2), checked Nov 2, 2026.

Renew by Jan 31. Rule 4.050 says renewal forms "postmarked by the post office February 1 or after will be considered delinquent." Rule 4.060 sets the SLP renewal fee at $50.

ASHA courses count. Rule 4.053(1) says at least 20 of your 30 hours must come from an "Activity/Provider approved by" ASHA or another listed group, such as the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) or the American Medical Association (AMA), from courses sponsored by the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) or the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), or from coursework at a regionally accredited college or university in a subject the rule lists. Rule 4.053(2) says: "A maximum of ten (10) hours of the required thirty (30) hours of continuing education may be obtained from entities other than those specified in subsection (1)(A)." Those hours still have to be an organized program that relates to your practice.

Missouri counts hours. Rule 4.051 says an hour is "a minimum of fifty (50) minutes" and CEUs "are rounded down to the nearest hour." One CEU equals 10 clock hours, so 3.0 ASHA CEUs cover all 30 hours.

Hours don't carry over. Rule 4.052(2) says: "Continuing education hours cannot be carried over into the next reporting period."

Your ASHA CE Registry can be your proof. Rule 4.053(4) lists "A Continuing Education Registry Form" from ASHA as documentation, along with a certificate of attendance, a letter from the provider or a transcript.

At renewal you state "under penalty of perjury" that you finished your 30 hours (4.052(3)). Keep your records "for a minimum of three (3) years after the reporting period" (4.052(4)). The board may audit.

Short on hours? Rule 4.052(2) says a licensee without the 30 hours "shall not engage in the practice" of speech-language pathology unless the board approves an extension. Rule 4.054 allows one for illness, military service or other hardship, at the board's discretion, and you have to apply in writing "prior to the December 31 deadline." The fee is $25.

Clinical fellows: 30 days in a clinical fellowship during a reporting period meets the requirement for that period (4.053(3)). Provisional licensees don't need CE until they get a permanent license (4.052(7)).

We read these rules in 20 CSR 2150-4 (Code of State Regulations, current through 6/30/25) on the Missouri Secretary of State site on Nov 2, 2026.

Missouri counts activities approved by ASHA toward the 20 hours that must come from listed sources. Every course below was listed for ASHA CEUs when we checked it, so it can count, within the rules above.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Missouri’s rules above are in hours. Those are the ones that apply to your license.

About ableU rows. Free to take. If you want ableU to report it to ASHA for you, ASHA charges a Registry fee. You can skip that. Keep your certificate. The hours still count, and you claim them on ASHA's Certification Maintenance Compliance Form.
