What the ASHA CE Registry does, and whether you need it

The ASHA CE Registry is an optional yearly service. It keeps a transcript of the ASHA CEUs you earn, and it can send in your Compliance Form once you reach 3.0 ASHA CEUs (30 hours) and meet ASHA's professional development requirements. You can keep your CCC without it.

It's optional. Here is what the yearly fee buys you.

Find courses by need

Twenty states have their own page so far. For the rest, the picker takes you to all courses. Check with your state board before you count a course.

What it is

The CE Registry is ASHA's record of the ASHA CEUs you earn. ASHA says: "Only ASHA CEUs can be listed and tracked on the ASHA CE transcript." ASHA on the CE Registry.

It costs $28 a year for ASHA members and $38 for nonmembers. ASHA says you don't have to join it, or earn ASHA CEUs at all, to keep your CCC.

You can pay online from your transcript, by phone, by mail or with your ASHA dues. You can pay for this year, or for a past year that has credit reported.

What you get for the fee

A transcript of your ASHA CEUs. It lists your course history, and you can print it or email it for free. ASHA on the CE transcript.

Your Compliance Form, sent for you. ASHA says the Registry submits it once you earn 3.0 ASHA CEUs (30 hours) in your 3-year interval and meet ASHA's professional development requirements. How to file the Compliance Form.

Less to do in an audit. ASHA says Registry users with at least 3.0 ASHA CEUs registered in their interval don't send any more documents if they are picked. What an ASHA audit asks for.

A record to send your state board or employer. Check first that your board accepts it. For state boards that use Propelus CE Broker, ASHA sends your course information and ASHA CEUs there.

What it doesn't do

It tracks ASHA CEUs only. A course that gives another kind of credit won't appear, yet ASHA says all types of credit can count toward your 30. ASHA on PDHs.

It isn't instant. Providers have up to 45 days after a course ends to report it, so a course you just finished may not show yet.

It doesn't add courses by itself. Follow each provider's steps to ask for ASHA CEUs when you take the course.

Do you need it?

Not for your CCC. You can track your own hours, keep your certificates and send in the Compliance Form yourself.

It does the most for you if most of your courses give ASHA CEUs and you would rather skip the paperwork. It does less if many of your hours come from other kinds of credit.

Fewer than 30 hours on the Registry? ASHA says you keep your own records of your activities, so save each certificate. ASHA's audit FAQs.

Hours and CEUs

ASHA counts your 30 in hours. 1 hour is 0.1 ASHA CEU, so 3.0 ASHA CEUs is 30 hours. Your transcript shows CEUs, so read 0.1 on it as 1 hour toward your 30.

A course counts on the day you finish it, not the day you start.

Still missing your 1 hour in ethics or your 2 hours in cultural responsiveness, self-reflection or collaboration?

The Registry sends your form only once those hours are done. These free courses are on demand, so you can start today. 5 have an ethics topic and 19 cover cultural responsiveness, self-reflection or collaboration (Content Area 2).

Topic matches. The Topic match column shows which ASHA area the course topic fits. You decide whether a course counts.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Your state may count hours differently. Check your state page before you rely on a course.

About ableU rows. Free to take. If you want ableU to report it to ASHA for you, ASHA charges a Registry fee. You can skip that. Keep your certificate. The hours still count, and you claim them on ASHA's Certification Maintenance Compliance Form.

How much does the CE Registry cost?

$28 a year for ASHA members and $38 a year for nonmembers.

Does the Registry send in my Compliance Form?

Yes, once you earn 3.0 ASHA CEUs (30 hours) in your 3-year interval and meet ASHA's professional development requirements.
