Seventeen states have their own page so far. For the rest, the picker takes you to all courses. Check with your state board before you count a course.

When you can ask

ASHA grants extensions only from December 1 of the third year of your interval through March 31 of the next year. You ask with ASHA's online extension request form. ASHA on extensions.

Interval ends Dec 31, 2026? ASHA's form page says the form reopens December 1, 2026, for people in the 2024 to 2026 interval. ASHA's extension form.

Not sure when your interval ends? Log in to My Account on asha.org and open Certification, or call the ASHA Action Center at 800-498-2071.

What happens after you ask

  1. Send the request form. ASHA says you get an email with your instructions and deadlines in about 7 business days. ASHA's extension form.
  2. Keep earning hours. You can start before that email arrives.
  3. Hold your Compliance Form until the extension is granted and you have met every requirement for the interval. That is 30 hours, including 1 hour in ethics and 2 hours in cultural responsiveness, self-reflection or collaboration (ASHA's Content Area 2). ASHA's exact wording.
  4. Expect an audit. ASHA audits people who ask for an extension, for that interval and the next one. You send a Record Keeping Form that lists your courses.

Save a certificate for every course now, so the audit is easy. It should show your name, the course title, the provider, the date and the hours.

Questions about the request? ASHA's form page lists cccmaintenance@asha.org.

Before you count on it

Extra hours don't carry over. Hours past 30 for the interval you are finishing don't move into your next one. ASHA's example: finish on Feb 22, 2026 with 35 hours, and the extra 5 can't roll into your new interval. ASHA's extension form.

No extension and still short? On April 1 ASHA changes your status to Not Current. You then have until August 31 to finish and report. See what Not Current means.

Miss August 31 too and you have to apply to get your CCC back. See how ASHA reinstatement works.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Your state may count hours differently. Check your state page before you rely on a course.

About ableU rows. Free to take. If you want ableU to report it to ASHA for you, ASHA charges a Registry fee. You can skip that. Keep your certificate. The hours still count, and you claim them on ASHA's Certification Maintenance Compliance Form.
