Minnesota SLP license CE requirements

What the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) asks for, taken from official state sources, and free courses you can use.

Last checked Oct 21, 2026.

Find courses by need

Sixteen states have their own page so far. For the rest, the picker takes you to all courses. Check with your state board before you count a course.

Details

Your CE period starts on your current license's effective date and ends on its expiration date.

State law also lets you meet the rule by meeting ASHA's continuing education requirements. See subdivision 1 of Minn. Stat. 148.5193.

MDH doesn't pre-approve courses. It accepts a course that is an organized program on SLP practice, taught by experts, from a sponsor that verifies attendance and keeps records for four years.

Upload the MDH CE reporting form with your renewal. Don't send certificates unless MDH asks, and keep them with a copy of the form.

If your license period was shorter than two years, the hours are prorated by the months you were licensed.

We checked these rules on the MDH site and in state law on Oct 21, 2026.

Minnesota accepts courses from ASHA-approved providers, so the free courses below can count, within the limits above.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Minnesota’s rules above are in hours. Those are the ones that apply to your license.

ASHA is separate

Your license and your ASHA CCC have separate rules. ASHA wants 30 hours every 3 years. Here's how ASHA maintenance works.

Questions

Do ASHA courses count in Minnesota?

They can. MDH accepts courses that meet its sponsor standards, and state law also accepts meeting ASHA's CE requirements.

Can I carry extra hours forward?

No. Hours only count in the license period you earned them.
