Illinois SLP license CE requirements

What the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) asks for, taken from official state sources, and free courses you can use.

Find courses by need

Sixteen states have their own page so far. For the rest, the picker takes you to all courses. Check with your state board before you count a course.

Details

You don't need CE for your first Illinois renewal.

IDFPR also requires a 1-hour cultural competency course, and a 1-hour course on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias if you work with adults 26 or older. Each is due before your first renewal that needs CE and then every six years.

All of these mandated courses can count toward the 20 hours. The Illinois rules list ASHA and its affiliates among approved sponsors.

The next deadline is Oct 31, 2027. Distance learning courses must include an exam.

Illinois accepts courses from ASHA-approved providers, so the free courses below can count, within the limits above.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Illinois’s rules above are in hours. Those are the ones that apply to your license.
