Other formats count too, such as academic study, mentoring (up to one-third) and independent study (up to one-sixth).
Related-area hours can cover things like supervision, ethics, law, and reimbursement. Ethics has no separate minimum.
Formal courses count from sponsors approved by ASHA, AAA, IACET, NYSSLHA and SED.
Your license does not expire. Your registration does, every three years.

Is it 30 or 36 hours?
30 hours every three years, per NYSED.
How much can be online on-demand?
Self-study means on-demand online or recorded courses, and it is capped at two-thirds of required hours, per NYSED. Live webinars count as live formal courses.
Do ASHA CEUs count?
Courses from ASHA-approved sponsors are listed as acceptable. The hours still need to meet the professional/related split.
Is ethics required?
NY does not set a separate ethics hour minimum for SLPs; ethics counts as a related area.
