Details

The last renewal was due May 31, 2026, for hours earned June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2026. Renewed licenses expire May 31, 2028.

The board treats a 0.1 credit as 1 hour, so a 0.1 ASHA CEU course counts as 1 hour when you enter it.

Online and other independent study counts with no hour limit, as long as you pass the post-test and keep proof.

If a course directly concerns SLP practice, you don't have to ask the board to approve it first.

The rule recommends, but doesn't require, 2 hours in supervision. Hours don't carry over.

Licensed for less than 6 months of the cycle? No CE is needed. Between 6 months and 2 years, the hours are prorated.

You list your hours in the CE workbook when you renew. Send certificates only if you are picked for an audit.

We checked these rules on the Maryland regulations site and the board's renewal instructions on Oct 22, 2026.

This state has its own approved provider rules. Confirm a course is accepted before you count it toward your license.

ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Maryland’s rules above are in hours. Those are the ones that apply to your license.

ASHA is separate

Your license and your ASHA CCC have separate rules. ASHA wants 30 hours every 3 years. Here's how ASHA maintenance works.

Questions

Do ASHA courses count in Maryland?

The rule doesn't name ASHA. Topic matches decide it: a course that directly concerns SLP practice doesn't need board approval first, and the board counts 0.1 credit as 1 hour.

Is ethics required in Maryland?

Yes. At least 1 hour of ethics and 1 hour of cultural competency each renewal period.
