How to reinstate your ASHA CCC-SLP

Missed ASHA's August 31 deadline? To get your CCC-SLP back you apply for reinstatement. ASHA asks for 10, 20 or 30 hours, based on how long you have been without it, plus a fee.

What ASHA asks for, based on how long you have been without it.

This page is our summary of ASHA's rules. Each section links to ASHA's exact wording.

Find courses by need

Seventeen states have their own page so far. For the rest, the picker takes you to all courses. Check with your state board before you count a course.

When reinstatement applies

Miss your hours or your report and your status turns Not Current on April 1. If you still have not met the requirements and reported them by August 31, ASHA says you have to meet reinstatement requirements to get your CCC back. ASHA on Not Current status.

ASHA's reinstatement page also covers a CCC that expired because fees went unpaid, and a CCC you resigned or retired. If ASHA's Board of Ethics revoked or withheld your CCC, there is an extra step first. ASHA on reinstatement.

How many hours you need

ASHA bases the hours on how long you have been without certification:

  • 1 year or less without certification: 10 hours, done no more than 1 year before you apply
  • 1 to 2 years without certification: 20 hours, done no more than 3 years before you apply
  • 2 years or more without certification: 30 hours, done no more than 3 years before you apply

ASHA asks for professional development within the Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology. We checked ASHA's reinstatement page, its reinstatement pathway and its PDH page on Oct 29, 2026. None of them sets an ethics or Content Area 2 rule for reinstatement hours. ASHA lists 1 hour in ethics and 2 hours in cultural responsiveness, self-reflection or collaboration as rules for keeping your CCC each interval. You decide whether a course fits.

1 hour is 60 minutes spent as a learner. 10 hours is 1.0 ASHA CEU, so 20 hours is 2.0 ASHA CEUs and 30 hours is 3.0.

What the application asks for

  1. Apply online. ASHA's page has an Apply for Reinstatement button. ASHA on reinstatement.
  2. Pay the reinstatement fee: $400 for the CCC-SLP with ASHA membership, or $371 for the CCC-SLP without membership.
  3. List each course: the full title, the provider, the date you finished and the hours. Keep copies of your certificates in case ASHA asks for them.
  4. Send a passing Praxis score if your CCC has been expired for more than 1 year. The score has to be from no more than 5 years before you apply. At 1 year or less, you don't need it.

ASHA says to allow 4 to 6 weeks for review once your application and documents are in. Your CCC comes back only after ASHA checks that you meet every requirement.

Withdraw before ASHA's deadlines and you get the fee back, minus a $50 processing fee. Miss the deadlines and ASHA closes the application and keeps the fee.

Once you are back

You keep your CCC the same way every SLP does: follow ASHA's Code of Ethics, pay your annual dues or fees, and earn 30 hours in each 3-year interval. That includes 1 hour in ethics and 2 hours in cultural responsiveness, self-reflection or collaboration. ASHA's exact wording.

Your new interval starts the first January after your CCC is reinstated, the same rule as for new SLPs. ASHA on intervals. See your first interval.
