What “ASHA approved” means
ASHA does not approve single courses. It approves providers, called ASHA Approved CE Providers. In ASHA's words, it “approves ASHA Approved CE Providers not courses”, and that approval does not mean ASHA endorses what a course teaches.
An approved provider registers a course for ASHA CEUs. When you finish it, the provider reports you to the ASHA CE Registry, and the Registry awards the ASHA CEUs. How ASHA describes it.
So a “free ASHA approved CEU” is a free course from an approved provider, registered for ASHA CEUs. ASHA asks providers to say “free course” rather than “free ASHA CEUs”, which is why you will see that wording on course pages.
Every course on this page was listed for ASHA CEUs by its provider when we checked, Oct 19 to 26, 2026. ASHA's own lists are the final word, so check there too.
What to check before you count a course
- The Brand Block. Registered courses show the ASHA Approved CE Provider Brand Block, the number of ASHA CEUs and the instructional level in its course promotion.
- ASHA's lists. Search the course in ASHA CEFind, or the provider in ASHA's Approved CE Provider lookup.
- How you get credit. For ASHA CEUs on your ASHA transcript, you pay the CE Registry fee for that year: $28 for ASHA members, $38 for nonmembers. Then ask the provider to report you. ASHA on the Registry.
- Your state. Most state boards accept ASHA CEUs, but each board makes its own rules. Check your state page before you count a course toward a license.
You can skip the Registry. ASHA does not require ASHA CEUs to keep your CCC. Keep each certificate, and the hours still count toward your 30. How ASHA CEUs and hours work.

Does ASHA approve individual courses?
No. ASHA approves providers, called ASHA Approved CE Providers. Those providers register courses for ASHA CEUs. ASHA says its approval does not mean it endorses the course content. ASHA explains it here.
Are these courses really free?
Each one was listed as free when we checked it, Oct 19 to 26, 2026. Some need a free account with the provider. Offers change, so confirm on the course page before you start.
Do I have to pay for the ASHA CE Registry?
No. The Registry is optional. It costs $28 a year for ASHA members and $38 for nonmembers, and it puts ASHA CEUs on your ASHA transcript. ASHA does not require ASHA CEUs to keep your CCC. ASHA on the Registry.
How many free hours do I need for my CCC?
ASHA asks for 30 hours every 3 years. That is 3.0 ASHA CEUs. 1 hour has to be ethics and 2 hours have to be in Content Area 2. The full ASHA rule.
