Details
This page is our summary of Nebraska's rules. Text in quotation marks is the exact wording of 172 NAC 23, 172 NAC 10 or the DHHS renewal notice.
Every Nebraska SLP license expires on the same day. 172 NAC 23-004 says: "All Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist licenses expire on December 1st of even-numbered years." The DHHS renewal notice gives this round's date: "License Expires 12/01/2026."
The hours are in 172 NAC 23-005: "On or before December 1st of each even-numbered year, individuals holding an active license in the State of Nebraska must complete at least 20 hours of acceptable continuing education hours during the preceding 24-month period."
Your ASHA CCC can cover it. 172 NAC 23-005.01(A) says: "Current certification will satisfy the continuing education requirement for the preceding 24-month period."
Ethics isn't required. It sits in Content Area II with topics like supervision and reimbursement. 172 NAC 23-005.02 says: "The licensee may participate in all 20 hours from Content Area I with no more than 5 hours from Content Area II".
The board doesn't approve courses. 172 NAC 23-005.02 says: "The board does not approve continuing education programs or activities." A course must "relate to the theory or clinical application of theory pertaining to the practice of audiology or speech-language pathology and must be open to all licensees." Courses under 30 minutes don't count.
Online courses count as home study when the provider scores a test. 172 NAC 23-005.01(E) says: "The home study activity must have a testing mechanism scored by the named home study provider." Keep the certificate of completion and the program outline or objectives. We found no cap on online hours.
Nebraska's rules don't mention carrying hours over. We couldn't find a carryover rule in 172 NAC 23 or 172 NAC 10.
First licensed in the last 2 years? 172 NAC 10-004.03(B) says: "The department waives continuing competency requirements for credential holders who were first credentialed within the 24-month period immediately prior to the renewal date."
Renew online at nebraska.mylicense.com or by mail. The renewal notice says your application and fee "must be POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE 12/01/2026 to avoid expiration of your license." It also says: "If you practice without an active license, an administrative penalty of $10 per day up to $1,000 will be assessed for each day of practice." Details are on the DHHS license renewals page.
We read these rules in the 172 NAC 23 and 172 NAC 10 PDFs, on the DHHS board page and in the 2026 renewal notice on Oct 28, 2026.

Nebraska's board doesn't approve courses or providers. A course can count if it fits the topic and format rules above, and a current ASHA CCC meets the CE requirement on its own.
ASHA counts hours and CEUs. 1 hour is 0.1 CEU, so ASHA’s 30 hours is 3.0 CEUs. Nebraska’s rules above are in hours. Those are the ones that apply to your license.
About ableU rows. Free to take. If you want ableU to report it to ASHA for you, ASHA charges a Registry fee. You can skip that. Keep your certificate. The hours still count, and you claim them on ASHA's Certification Maintenance Compliance Form.

ASHA is separate
Your license and your ASHA CCC have separate rules. ASHA wants 30 hours every 3 years. Here's how ASHA maintenance works.

Questions
When do Nebraska SLP licenses expire?
December 1 of even-numbered years, per 172 NAC 23-004. The DHHS renewal notice says the current licenses expire 12/01/2026.
Is ethics required in Nebraska?
No. Ethics falls in Content Area II, and you can count no more than 5 hours from that area. That's our summary of 172 NAC 23-005.02, quoted above.
Do ASHA courses count in Nebraska?
The rules don't list approved providers, ASHA or any other, and the board doesn't approve courses. A course can count if it fits the topic and format rules above. A current ASHA CCC meets the CE requirement on its own (172 NAC 23-005.01(A)).
Can extra hours carry over?
We couldn't find a carryover rule in 172 NAC 23 or 172 NAC 10. What the rule does say is that the 20 hours must be done "during the preceding 24-month period" (172 NAC 23-005).
